2007 National Guitar Workshop Austin TX- This was one of the true highlights of my life. Cindy Cashdollar and Sonny Landreth both did amazing clinics for my seminar students on their respective fields of expertise. Cindy addressed topics such as the characteristics of different tunings, picking and muting techniques and subtle differences to approaching lap steel and Dobro. Sonny shared his innovative approach to harmonics and using combinations of slide guitar and behind-the-slide fretting. During Cindy's clinic she played gorgeous Dobro while I sang "Last Thing on my Mind", which was such a treat for me! Then they did a duo set for the whole campus that just floored everyone. For the finale, I joined them onstage for a bunch of burning numbers with Texas Hall-of-Famer and Grammy winner Ernie Durawa on drums and the fantastic bass player Lynn Daniels. It was such an incredible thrill to perform with these people who I admire so greatly for their musical genius and generosity of spirit. I can't describe what a total dream it was to look across the stage and see Sonny and Cindy smiling back at me. They are both truly the best in the world at what they do. I can only hope that we can do more of the same in the future!
